As the world tries to emerge from the challenges faced due to the disastrous Covid-19, many countries are lending a helping hand to one another and looking forward to strengthen diplomatic ties mutually.
Last year, via its Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) campaign, India provided self-produced PPE kits to the neighbouring nations during the peak of this Covid-19 catastrophe. Moreover, Bharat also got acclaimed by Brazil President Bolsonaro for the supply of vaccine through its Vaccine Maitri campaign.
While India, alongside other such nations has taken efforts to lend help to other countries to emerge from the crisis, the United States refused to provide raw materials to India to produce Covid vaccine. Under the pretext of prioritising on the US citizens first, the ‘so-called’ developed economy / superpower has conveyed that helping India in the time of crisis holds lesser significance.
The Biden – Harris administration that reigned in to govern the United States in 2021, is starting to act against Indian diplomatic interests. The United States Vice President, Kamala Harris, who bragged about being of Indian origin, during her election campaigns has been severely criticised for refusing to cooperate with India on the grounds of humility and compassion.
Currently, it seems as if the shrewd and ruthless Biden-Harris adminstration will steadily ensure to disregard every promise of cooperation made by the Trump government. This approach will not only severe the US-India ties, but become the reason of economic misery across the globe in the longrun.
However, the recent update about Indian NSA Ajit Doval’s talk with his US counterpart, Jake Sullivan regarding the spike of Covid cases in India and the US agreement to stand in solidarity with India during this crucial span ignites hope.
But, as the challenges intensify, India finds a new way out of it. Bharat has always been a friend in need and of course, indeed! It is a warrior in itself and so…
