I feel extremely disheartened to learn about the sad demise of first-ever Indian Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Gen. Bipinji Rawat, his wife and 11 Armed Forces personnel, who succumbed to the tragic accident while commuting in an IAF Mi 17 V5 helicopter near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
Moreover, Group Captain Varun Singh, decorated with the Shaurya Chakra on Independence Day this year, the lone survivor among the 14 onboard personnel, gave in to his injuries and passed away on December 15.
CDS General Bipin Rawat’s achievements were impeccable, as were his insights to protect national security. The General who not only stood firm against the national adversaries, but also ensured to combat and bring them down to their knees!
During his service, General Rawat has been accoladed with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, and Sena Medal.
This loss feels deeply personal and it is irreparable for our nation, Bharat and us, Bhartiyas!
